The Ultimate Writing Retreat™ – Asheville, NC July 17-20, 2013
Come to Asheville and Rejuvenate Your Writing Career
If you are:
Tired of working really hard and have little to show for it…
Feeling like you should be making more money with your writing but don’t know how…
Eager and ready to go to the next level with your writing career…
Then the Ultimate Writing Retreat™ in Asheville, NC is just the thing for you!
There is no better way to expand your writing experience and skills than to attend this uniquely-designed retreat in Asheville, North Carolina.
This town is known as a destination with a style and rhythm all its own. You can learn how to develop your own writing style and rhythm while attending this three-day intense, hands-on, one-on-one training session.
Hi, I’m Steve Roller and I’m excited to extend this invitation to you because I want to see you succeed as a writer. This is not just an inspirational gathering of like-minded writers. It is truly an opportunity to learn how to improve your business and make the kind of money you deserve.
I’ve been in this business for over nine years and I’m ready to share what I’ve learned through my experiences and to help you move forward with your career. I’ve been in your shoes, and I want to help you get through some of the growing pains of becoming a confident, affluent writer.
Through the development of my own business and my many encounters with others, I have found that writers at any stage in their career, but especially the newer ones, have the same set of fears and uncertainty. I want to help you blast through those barriers and become the writer you’ve always dreamed you could be.
What kinds of barriers am I referring to?
If you’ve been asking yourself any of these questions, then this retreat is designed especially for you:
- “How do I position myself to attract business as the copywriting/marketing/freelance world becomes more crowded?”
- “How do I get clients and projects that match my talents? In other words, how do I get paid what I’m worth, and not take the lower-level gigs that are easier to get?”
- “I want to write a book to establish my credibility, but I’m not sure what to write about, and I don’t know if anyone would read it.”
- “What is a simple marketing system that will allow me to focus on writing, not selling myself?”
- “When does it get easier? I’m tired of going from project to project, making decent income, but not breaking loose to that six-figure territory everyone seems to talk about.”
- “I want high-level coaching so I can make more money, but I can’t afford it right now. It’s a Catch-22.”
- “Every month something new comes along that I need to learn about. How do I create a profitable business doing what I do best and still keep up with things in the industry?”
- “When can I stop spending money on programs, books, coaching, conferences, retreats, and just make money?”
Sound familiar? Well you’re not alone. If you’re facing any of these issues…I’ll help you overcome them.
The Ultimate Writing Retreat™ is the perfect setting to address these challenges. There will be no more than 11 people, including you and me, to tackle these tasks one by one. You’ll get personal training from me as well as interaction with other fellow writers. We can all learn from each other.
Interested? Well there’s more. We’ll be using these three days to move you to the next level and beyond. I’ll provide follow-up coaching sessions during the following months. Plus, you and the other attendees have the opportunity to bond and form a networking group for ongoing support long after the end of the retreat.
What will you learn while you’re in Asheville?
Although I have some fun things planned for our stay in the historical town of Asheville, our main purpose for this gathering is to bring your writing career up to the next level and help you make some serious money.
Here are some of the things you will learn:
- The 7 steps to crafting a high-profile image
- How to cultivate and keep solid clients
- What you need to know about the True Business Success Pyramid
- The 5 offbeat steps to becoming an in-demand, well-paid copywriter
- What a funeral director once taught me about “deeper” writing
- How you can write and publish your book in 40 days
- The art of selling and positioning for creative types: A guide to getting paid what you’re worth
And there’s more…
You will participate in daily writing exercises that include constructive feedback and individual critiques.
You will also learn how to:
- Leverage your book into bigger things
- Wine and dine your way to success
- Design your ultimate lifestyle of adventure and intrigue
My goal is for you to get the most out of our three days together, so be prepared to start early, end late and work very hard.
What’s so special about Asheville?
According to their own website, exploreasheville.com, Asheville is “known as an art colony, a healing resort and a home to notable luminaries, statesmen and bohemians. Asheville is one of the most welcoming, vibrant cities in America.”
It is the perfect setting for a writer’s retreat.
The town is filled with history and they have done an excellent job of preserving the art, diverse architecture, music and a creative atmosphere.
Some of this creativity is bound to rub off and inspire us all to reach our full potential as writers.
Although we will be working hard, we will take ample breaks to escape and refresh our brain cells.
Again quoting from their own website, this town is home “to the world’s first Foodtopian society. The city where food is the centerpiece of daily life with approximately 20 farmers markets, nearly 250 independent restaurants and a bevy of local breweries.”
As you know, we need to be well-nourished to fulfill our writing goals!
Once you have satisfied your gourmet palate with the fine foods of this town you can try your hand…or foot…at hiking the Blue Ridge wilderness, visit the 434-acre NC Arboretum, or enjoy the views atop the 315-foot chimney in Chimney Rock State Park. If you’re still up for more fun, you can hike some of the 90 miles of hiking trails in the DuPont State Forest.
Not enough for you? Then try one of Asheville’s Zipline Adventures, River Rafting tours, or just enjoy a scenic picnic or walk through one of the many beautiful gardens found in the area.
I’ll be incorporating one or two of these fun activities into our retreat.
A great combination for aspiring writers … a town known for its creative influence and lots of possibilities for outside recreation to refresh the spirit.
Where will we be staying?
Another fun thing about these writing retreats is the location in which we hold them. I try to pick unique, comfortable places that reflect the feel of the community as well as provide us with the accommodations we need.
I’m really excited about this one. It’s called the Hill House Bed & Breakfast and is located a mile from downtown Asheville and all of the amenities the town has to offer. The Biltmore Estate is only 15 minutes from the front door and it is close to the scenic road leading up to the majestic Blue Ridge Parkway that gives you access to waterfalls, hiking, and Appalachian arts and crafts.
They pride themselves by saying “Hill House is a place with one foot very much in the present and the other in a past we all cherish.” It has a wraparound front porch of yesteryear and an Appalachian garden that is a perfect spot for reflection and inspiration.
The rooms are timeless and vary in style and size. Here are the rates:
Arcade and Kress Rooms $110/night
S&W Room $120/night
Jackson, DrHumor and Battery Park $130/night
Flatiron and Biltmore Suites $150/night
These rates are for one person. Additional persons in the room are $25/night each. If anyone wants to share a room, the Battery Park and the Flatiron Suite each have good-quality daybeds. If any two people chose to share either or both of those rooms, room rates would likewise be an additional $25/night.
The rate includes breakfast and late afternoon hors d’oeuvres, wine, and other beverages. During our meetings, we will have water, coffee, hot and iced tea, spiced nuts, muffins or other bread in the morning hours, and cookies in the afternoon.
Call David at the Hill House at 855-447-0002 and tell him you’re with the Ultimate Writing Retreat to get these special rates.
How do you get there?
Asheville is served by Asheville Regional (AVL) Airport and can be reached from most of the major hubs such as Chicago, Denver, San Francisco, LA, Houston, JFK, Atlanta, Miami, Las Vegas and Newark.
You can also fly into Charlotte but it’s about a two-hour drive from Asheville. The nearest Amtrak station is in Salisbury over 100 miles away.
What benefits does this retreat offer?
You will be taking away three days of experience as a writer. While you are there you will be working on a real assignment of your choice and you will be well on your way to the completion by the end of the retreat.
You will leave with a completely framed-out eBook, second website, or book idea along with a detailed blueprint for finishing your project within 60 days of the retreat.
The project is entirely up to you, so come with an idea of what you want to work on. If you don’t have any ideas for a project, then I can help you with that decision process as well. We will find something that fits.
This will be dedicated time to focus on your writing business. Just think…three whole days to write…without the interruptions of daily life.
You will also be leaving with a whole new resource to fall back on. Your fellow students will continue to be a part of your writing life for as long as you nurture those relationships. They will continue to be a valuable asset for you in the future.
In addition, you and I will leave with a coach/student relationship and I will follow up with you at least twice as part of the retreat package… more if you decide you want to continue working with me as your mentor.
And there are three more bonuses you will receive just for being an attendee:
Bonus #1: Two follow-up phone calls with me. These two 30-minute sessions will combine training, accountability, and action steps designed to help you complete the project you launched in Asheville within 60 days. Value: $150
Bonus #2: Your copy of the Ultimate Writing Retreat™ Guide to Bigger Writing Income, including updates for life. Value: $250 (or thousands, depending on what you do with it)
Bonus #3: Exclusive perks as an Ultimate Writing Retreat™ Member. As American Express used to say, “Membership has its privileges.” Yours will include discounts on future retreats, priority access to me for copy critiques, and more important, a chance to hang out with some of the coolest people you will ever meet. Value: Priceless!
“If you’re interested in developing a strong and prosperous copywriting business, I recommend that you ‘roll into success with Steve Roller’!”
– Melanie Garrett, copywriter at Prize Copy and author of Under His Helmet
What qualifies me to teach this retreat?
Why am I doing this? Because I have a passion for helping other writers, and a firm belief that our best writing happens in focused, intense, inspiring places.
I also happen to love traveling, and have big plans to host the Ultimate Writing Retreat™ in a bunch of other cool places the next few years (and you’ll get first dibs and a nice discount on any of those.)
I’ve been a copywriter since 2004, full-time freelancing since March 30, 2009. I’ve written 115 articles for American Writers & Artists, Inc. (AWAI), been published at EarlyToRise.com, and had feature stories written about me in The Barefoot Writer and at InternationalLiving.com.
I’ve had a handful of regular monthly clients for the past three years, worked on a copywriting project with Dan Kennedy, and currently have a successful promotion in the mail and online that I wrote for master copywriter Mark Everett Johnson. I’ve carved out a very solid income as a copywriter while traveling seven to ten weeks every year.
“Steve Roller came through for me with solid research, sound insights and valuable input for a major copywriting project of mine, involving direct-response advertising encompassing every medium: print, direct mail, internet, and broadcast.”
– Dan S. Kennedy, Consultant/Copywriter, Best-Selling Author, No BS Series, www.NoBSBooks.com
In addition, I also have a knack for teaching, training, and coaching. Over the past couple of years I’ve worked one-on-one with a number of beginning and intermediate copywriters, helping people get to the next level. (Check out Café Buzz to see what other writers have said about me.)
“I landed a multi-million dollar company as a client a few months after I began to study copywriting. Fortunately for me, I met Steve Roller a few days later! Thanks to Steve’s generosity and expert guidance, my new client was happy, and I gained the hope and confidence that I could become a successful copywriter. Steve is an excellent teacher.”
– Tanya MarCia, Web Copywriter at WritersTouch.com
Besides the Ultimate Writing Retreat™, I’ve also conducted eight two-day workshops already this year called The Copywriter’s Workshop. Attendees in Portland, Seattle, Boston, Hartford, St. Louis, Kansas City, Denver, and Las Vegas gave me high marks on both the content and how it was delivered.

What’s the investment for this life changing experience?
I’ve seen many online-only webinars that cost more than the Ultimate Writing Retreat™, and I’ve attended many three-day events that were over $2,000.
This one is only $787! Or if you move quickly, it is $687 with the Early Bird discount but you must register by Monday, July 8, at 11:59 PM CDT.
Another option is to take advantage of my easy three-pay plan at just $240/month. With this plan you can spread it out from now until August. Yes, you can actually finish paying after the retreat. (The three-pay plan is also only available through July 8, 2013.)
Most big conferences run anywhere from $1,500 to $5,000 for three days, and they’re well worth it in my opinion.
But for the fraction of that cost, this retreat, held in an intimate setting with only a few other fellow writers, will help you turn your writing career around.
You will be taking part in writing exercises, getting valuable hands on experience, receiving one-on-one training, and participating in critiquing each other’s work…not just listening to lectures.
You will get to know the other attendees and create a community with them. You will leave with a plan designed specifically for you that will allow you to start making the money you’ve been dreaming about.
Why should you attend this three-day seminar in Asheville?
With the Asheville Ultimate Writing Retreat™ you get …
- Three intense days of writing and copywriting workshops, professional critiques during the retreat, a one-on-one brainstorming session prior to the event with me, plus follow-through with me after the event.
- Three bonuses worth hundreds of dollars alone.
- An intimate environment with a small group of committed writers who are motivated to make big things happen.
This is going to be special, and I’m pulling out all the stops.
I’ve secured a creative business meeting space in a beautiful boutique inn. Coffee, drinks, and snacks throughout the retreat, breakfast on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, at least one dinner, and some fun social events in Asheville are all included in your retreat package.
Here’s the thing. Even if you got the same material in an online or written program (which would have been a lot simpler and less of an investment for me), you couldn’t possibly create the same experience as a live event in an artistic and creative setting such as Asheville.
So what’s your next step?
Sign up now! Join me in Ashville for an opportunity of a lifetime. Meet with me and a small group of fellow writers in a picturesque environment and allow yourself to grow. Not only grow as a writer but also learn how to expand your business to the level of success that you desire.
That’s all it takes. Sign up now and reserve your seat for The Ultimate Writing Retreat™ in Asheville. I look forward to seeing you there and helping you take your business to the next level.
