enthusiasm

We’re making this too complicated.

Do we really need complex marketing systems, detailed programs on getting clients, and branding campaigns that take months or years to implement?

Maybe. Those things certainly help. But it’s not that hard.

If you’re an Independent Creative (my preferred term over the ubiquitous “freelancer”), there’s one ingredient that I see missing from a lot of brands.

Add this one thing to your mix, or ratchet it up if you already have it, and you will set yourself apart from the masses:

Enthusiasm!

Yes, I’m telling you that enthusiasm makes the difference! Being enthusiastic can help you…

  • Bring in new business
  • Connect with interesting people
  • Get noticed in a crowded marketplace
  • Attract the right kind of clients
  • Make more money

It has for me, at least, and I believe it can for you, too. One of the trademarks of my brand is an unabashed enthusiasm for my work.

I love what I do! I love helping people turn big ideas and copywriting skills into profitable businesses.

It shines through when I talk to new clients, and I hope it does when I talk to other copywriters about my retreats and coaching.

You need skills to back up your enthusiasm, of course. That’s a given.

But the fact is, people want to work with sharp, on-the-ball people with big hearts and an overall sense of enthusiasm for their work.

Before you start developing your brand to its full extent, I have one simple suggestion.

Inject a healthy dose of enthusiasm into it!

And if you can’t muster up the right amount, perhaps it’s not time to settle on your brand quite yet.

    I think that sums it up for me, Steve. 🙂

    I always wanted to stay the kid I am. Have fun with my clients as we work together to a common goal. Care for each other. Keep the communication channel always open, both when things go well and when they go bad.

    Business relationships are still *human* relationships, aren’t they?

  • There are two parts of me impersonating two different roles and both united by enthusiasm. The half of me as social media mamager and online copy writer that is moved by enthusiasm in recognizing my role as the one that makes the company human by using words. The other half of me as a fashion blogger/writer of my first book: when I play that role I am (building) my own brand and nothing makes style contagious if not enthusiasm.

    So, Steve, once again you are king.

      I love it, Francesca! What I’m finding, and maybe you are, too, is that i naturally get more copywriting work as I build my brand outside of my copywriting for clients service. In fact, I took my copywriting websiste down about a year ago, and have had just as much work come my way since then. People find everything else I’m doing online – articles, interviews, speeches, plus my LinkedIn profile – and hire me based off of that, not just some target niche I happen to work in.

      Keep up the good work, Francesca! Hope we cross paths in person soon. I won’t be in Florida next month as planned, but will be sometime in 2015.

    I’m new here. I happen to find you when I was listening to a podcast you are on with Ed Gandia. That podcast prompted me to end up here and this is where I spent my entire night.

    I have read every word in your latest posts. I consumed practically everything I can find. I can’t put it down. I am very enthusiastic about writing and I’ forward to launching my own business in the email marketing niche.

    What I would like to do is create auto responder funnels for businesses.

    I love your enthusiasm about the profession and I hope to become more involved and snag some coaching from you.

      I am unabashedly enthusiastic about copywriting, selling in general, and understanding people, three things I’m pretty good at! I’ve been at it (selling) since 1986, and will be in some form until the day I die. I’m just getting warmed up with sharing what I know with others, and developing programs, retreats, and book ideas to spread the message far and wide. Stay tuned…

    I heard the Ed Gandia podcast too. Brilliant stuff. You always talk about branding and oddly enough I always think of you Steve, as the “nice guy” copywriter. It seems like a lot of us have an ego driven mentality. You see it on Warrior Forum a lot. And even Halbert and his peers to an extent. You always come across as someone I want to talk to…. and most copywriters I really don’t. I may be (The Dark Prince) of copy but I do like a little “easy going” in the conversation too!! James
